The technical specification IATF 16949, together with ISO 9001:2015, defines the essential requirements of quality management systems for the design, development, production and, if applicable, installation and support of all automotive products. Developed by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF), IATF 16949 is fully applicable worldwide and is required by all western manufacturers.
IATF 16949 can be applied to the entire automotive supply chain, including vehicle and component production sites and sites where treatment and finishing is carried out.
Support functions – such as design centres, central management offices and distribution centres – that support the site, fall within the scope of the site audit but cannot obtain stand-alone certification under this technical specification.
A Quality Management System designed and implemented in accordance with IATF 16949 defines the requirements for the processes of design, development, production and, where applicable, installation, assembly and support of automotive products. The international recognition of IATF 16949 underwrites the credibility of any organisation that has obtained certification, especially when taking part in supply tenders or taking steps to expand its business; it also helps reduce the number of production rejects and improve production efficiency. IATF 16949 also creates a shared approach to the quality management system along the entire automotive production chain and provides access to industry best practice.
The more authoritative the awarding body, the higher the value of your management system certification in the market. The organisation recognised by ANFIA (the Italian automotive supply chain association) for the issuance of certification to IATF 16949 is the consortium CISQ AUTOMOTIVE, of which IMQ is a member. Its auditors operate at a national and international level and thus have the capacity to meet the needs of organisations with factories located around the world. They also have long experience, industry-specific expertise and undergo constant updating in accordance with the specifications defined by the certification scheme.
